For quite a few years there had been discussion/speculation about the re-formation of a 216 Squadron Association, this culminated at a 216 Sqn re-union, in 2009, where OC 216 requested volunteers to form a committee and resurrect the 216 Squadron Association. Many responses were received from ‘willing' volunteers (although some may say they were ‘pressed men'!) from which a committee was formed and the foundation firmly set in readiness to launch the 216 Squadron Association. Membership is open to all ranks, aircrew and groundcrew alike and includes both current serving and ex-members of 216 Squadron, hopefully capturing not just those of the Tristar era but those of the Buccaneer, Comet and all aircraft types associated with 216 Squadron a target that is ambitious but both achievable and worthwhile.

The aims of the 216 Squadron Association include, but are not limited to the following:

  • To sustain and encourage contact between serving and ex-serving members of 216 Squadron.
  • To keep members updated on the whereabouts/ circumstances of Squadron Colleagues – past and present.
  • To hold an annual reunion, preferably at the home / base RAF Station of the Squadron or a locality associated with 216 Squadron –  01 April each year to coincide with Squadron formation date.
  • To hold/attend other social activities at specified intervals throughout the year – eg 216 Sqn Association members invited to attend the 216 Sqn Annual BBQ.

The above is obviously not exhaustive and your committee welcome other suggestions to further the benefits of membership.

Ex/serving members of 216 Squadron can apply for Life Membership at a cost of £21.60 this includes a Certificate of Membership and a 216 Sqn Association pin / lapel badge.

There are other membership levels so If you wish to become a member and begin to enjoy the benefits and indeed contribute to the success of your Association then please visit the membership page and download the relevant forms.
